The passing of another year,
Often stirs us to make our plans;
Renew our resolve and set our goals.
But before you rush to pursue your own good intentions,
Pause to consider,
What God might be saying.
Walk this year’s path prayerfully,
Make times to seek God’s face.
Hold lightly to your own ambitions.
Discern carefully,
Amidst the many voices that will seek your attention.
And seek companions,
Who will share that same resolve.
Through prayer,
Our hopes and desires,
Become entwined with God’s purposes,
Sometimes to refine our earthly intentions,
For his ways and ours are not always the same.
And sometimes to discover the underserved grace,
Of our deepest longings being granted.
