Reflections for a New Year

Day 5 - Be Honest

We follow Jesus,
The Way, the Truth, the Life.
We live as those who are called to declare his message;
Embrace his example;
Reveal his presence.
And if we are to bear testimony to God’s truth,
Then truth must be present in all of life.

Let truth begin within yourself,
Be honest about the person you are,
Your motives and desires;
Your flaws and limitations.
Do not dismiss others,
Simply because they say what you might not want to hear.
Measure their words by the truth they contain.

Do not exaggerate your own accomplishments,
Or the failings and faults of others.
Speak truth when it prevails at your expense;
Let it be heard because of what it is,
And not to serve the ends of those who speak it.
