Sunday 7th September 2025 - 13th Sunday after Pentecost
Jeremiah 18:1-11; Psalm 139:1-5, 12-17;
Philemon 1-21; Luke 14:25-33
(Alternatives: Deuteronomy 30:15-20; Psalm 1)
Today's reading from Jeremiah brings an obvious focus to those who create pottery and ceramics, and can be broadened to recognise the work of crafters and artisans more generally. The point that God seeks to make through Jeremiah's visit is that the fortunes of a nation can similarly be like clay in God's hands. In the Gospel readings, Jesus similarly draws on workplace images to outline the nature of Christian discipleship. From this, a congregation might be invited to consider where these core principles are reflected within the world of work and commerce today.
