Those who work in in the world of beauty and human appearance

Hairdressers, manicurists, make-up artists, perfumiers, and beauticians; staff of beauty salons and tanning studios. Dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons, manufacturers and suppliers of artificial limbs and those who counsel and support individuals with disfiguring injuries and illnesses. Manufacturers and suppliers of hairdryers, grooming and manicure equipment; suppliers of lipstick, mascara and other make-up products; skin creams, nail varnishes, cleansing and moisturising products.

Living God, in whose image we are formed and who chose human flesh when you entered creation to be its Redeemer; help us to enjoy our bodies however they appear. Your Word celebrates the beauty of the human body, and in stooping to wash Your disciples' feet, you showed Your concern for our physical being. So may we neither despise our human bodies nor become so obsessed with our outward appearance that it crushes the person You have placed within. May we care for this physical frame in anticipation of the resurrection bodies promised to those who place their faith in you. AMEN

Regular prayer for the world of work can be a significant feature in Sunday services. ICF seeks to provide a variety of resources to help those who prepare these. Prayer of this nature is important because:

  • It encourages Christians to see their working lives as part of their Christian Identity

  • It helps those involved in the world of work, particularly when their job makes it difficult to participate in church activities, to feel affirmed and valued.

  • It is a vital part of our intercessory responsibility to the community around us.

  • It communicates a faith that is relevant to real issues to those who visit our churches

Each week, we highhlight different groups of workers and encourage our members and followers to particularly pray for people who work in that sector. We also encourage local churches to include regular prayers for the world of work

As you pray, Consider what might be said in the context of thanksgiving, confession and intercession, both for the workers concerned and for those present.
